On April 28, 2022, a Telegram channel affiliated with Iran-backed militias in Iraq published a post advocating for the use of Russia-based encrypted social media platform VK (formerly VKontakte) as an alternative to Facebook. The channel called on supporters who have been suspended from other social platforms to use VK, saying it allows users "to post freely," and provided instructions for installing VK on mobile phones. The post also addressed the app's developer, asking that an Arabic option be added.
