Prominent Michigan-Based Jihadi Cleric Forbids Sharing Media Featuring Music Or Women

On June 1, 2023, a Telegram channel devoted to sharing content by an influential Michigan-based jihadi cleric published a poster with the cleric's ruling on the online dissemination of content containing "haram" elements, such as music or women. In the poster, the cleric is quoted saying that no clip containing music may be watched or promoted, even if it may be have "benefits" and "raise awareness for the ummah" about certain issues. The benefits must clearly outweigh the "haram," he said, recommending that music be removed and faces be obscured.
