January 4, 2022

On January 3, 2022 a Telegram outlet affiliated with Iran-backed Shi'ite militias in Iraq reported that two drones attacked a base in Baghdad where U.S. forces are stationed. The channel posted an image of the alleged remains of the drones, which bore the text "Operations to avenge the commanders," in apparent reference to slain IRGC Quds Force Commander Qasem Soleimani and Popular Mobilization Units Deputy Chairman Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who were killed in a U.S. airstrike on January 3, 2020. A news website reported on the attack as well, saying the C-RAM system downed both drones with no casualties.
