Pro-ISIS Telegram Channels: Operatives Should Emulate Use Of Drones In Ukraine

April 5, 2023

Over the past several days, several pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Telegram channels have shared videos and posts documenting and discussing the use of drones to destroy tanks as part of the war in Ukraine. One channel called on ISIS operatives to learn from and make use of the same techniques.

On March 24, 2023, a pro-ISIS channel which posts updates from the war in Ukraine relevant to jihadi sympathizers, posted a video juxtaposing two pieces of footage: one depicting former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson making a basketball shot while facing away, and another showing a drone penetrating a tank through an opening at the top.

A post accompanying the video read: "Anti-tank drones are a real terror... It entered from an opening on the tank to reach the rear!"

Another pro-ISIS channel shared the same video, calling the idea of anti-tank drones "beautiful," suggesting they can be used to deliver various payloads using rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) shells or M-80 explosives. It further noted that ISIS can use the same model, writing: "It is necessary for our group to exploit these ideas."
