On June 30, 2022 a new pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Telegram channel published a post advising media operatives to focus their content on news events, offering an angle not covered by mainstream media. It advised readers against using the style or lens of news reports, saying: "change the angle and shift it towards those whom [enemies] praise." The post included an Arabic-language hashtag reading "Syria and the media".
