On August 20, 2020 a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Telegram bot issued a warning that several Telegram channels thought to belong to senior ISIS officials, as well several bots and groups that claim to recruit for ISIS, are in fact fake accounts that are run by intelligence agencies. The bot posted screenshots from a message exchange with one of these bots, in which it asks that recruits provide a detailed list of personal information. The warning continued, saying that anyone promising to transport recruits to the land of jihad will ultimately only send them to prison.
