On December 11, 2018, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) tech group published a list of questions and answers on a variety of technical topics. One question pertained to whether Bitcoin was "safe" to use for online purchases. The group noted that, although Bitcoin has a "high level" of secrecy and users need only the recipient's Bitcoin address to send funds, Bitcoin "does not provide a strong level of privacy," the group wrote. The group recommended Zcash instead, noting its privacy features and the "difficulty in tracing it."
