Pro-ISIS Outlet Warns Against Revealing Open Source Intelligence On Social Media

May 20, 2024

On May 8, 2024 a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) outlet published a brief English-language article on telegra.ph on the risks of open source intelligence (OSINT). The article warns users of social media to be cautious and avoid disclosing their location by stating it explicitly, posting photos, or even using words and slang specific to a certain area. The article warns that even photos that do not show a person can potentially identify the location where they were taken.

The accompanying Telegram post noted that social media platforms can be used for personal and preaching purposes, but that users should not let their guard down or reveal any information about themselves.
