On September 1, 2023 a channel on the encrypted Rocket.Chat server operated by the Islamic State (ISIS) reported that a cyber security company discovered fake versions of the Telegram and Signal apps for Android devices available in the Google Play Store. These fake apps are marketed as "plus" or "premium" versions of the official app, promising additional features, but actually target app users and their information.
