On October 19, 2021, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) media outlet specializing in providing cyber security tips and instructions to supporters, published an instructional clip, with versions in English and Arabic, explaining how to use the ESET Mobile Security & Antivirus on Android.

According to the video, the app protects users from malware by scanning all downloaded files. The clip instructed users to enter fake email addresses after downloading the app, stating that is enough to grant them free access to the app's antivirus functionality. The video then showed step-by-step instructions for adjusting the app's advanced settings and using the scan functionality.

The post on the outlet's site included a call for supporters to support the work of the group by securely donating cryptocurrency. It listed the outlet's account on the Element encrypted messaging app as a contact for donations.
