Pro-ISIS Cyber Security Telegram Channel Recommends The Use Of A Virtual Private Network

On June 22, a pro-Islamic State (ISIS) Telegram channel dedicated to cyber security responded to a user who asked how secure it is to use several Telegram accounts he received from an unfamiliar source (which were likely hacked) without using a virtual private network (VPN). The channel responded that even without using a VPN, Telegram does not reveal the exact location or identity of users. The channel noted, however, that without using a VPN, information about the user's IP address, country, and possibly city may be accessible to others. For this reason, said the channel, using a VPN is preferable.
