On January 20, 2022, Telegram channels which support Iran-backed militias in Iraq reported that media affiliated with the Yemen-based Ansar Allah movement (Houthis) had released a poster threatening to attack the Burj Khalifah tower in Dubai and urging civilians to keep their distance from it. The poster depicted a drone with the tower in its sights. The word "Warning," written in English and in Arabic, appeared at the top of the poster.

A Telegram channel supporting Iran-backed militias in Iraq published a similar poster the same day, with text reading: "What's coming will be greater."
