On July 2, 2022, Israel intercepted three Hizbullah drones believed to be en route to the Karish offshore gas field, near the border between Israel and Lebanon. Three days following the operation, a Telegram channel affiliated with Hizbullah published a short animated video depicting drones bombing the Karish rig, paired with an excerpt from a speech by Hizbullah Secretary General Hassal Nasrallah, in which he threatened that the "resistance" has the capability to stop Israel from extracting oil and natural gas from its offshore reservoirs.
On the day of the operation, July 2, Hizbullah reported that its "Martyrs Jamil Sakaf and Mahdi Yaghdi" unit launched three unarmed drones of varying sizes toward the disputed territory of the gas field to carry out an "intelligence operation." According to Hizbullah, the drones successfully completed their mission, and the intended "message" was delivered.[1]
