A new blog in English (alkhilafaharidat.wordpress.com) that supports the Islamic State (IS) has recently surfaced online. On July 7, 2014, the blog published several articles, which it said were to be part of a forthcoming new English-language magazine titled Al-Khilafah Aridat ("The Caliphate Has Returned").
However, the plans to release that magazine were abandoned after the IS released its own English-language magazine, Dabiq.
The blog decided to publish those unfinished articles anyway; it also offered the IS its assistance, including in graphics and writing, for future Dabiq issues.
One of the articles on the blog, by "Taqi'ulDeen al-Munthir," was titled "Bitcoin Wa' Sadaqat Al-Jihad" ("Bitcoin and the charity of jihad"). In it, Al-Munthir suggests that Muslims use Bitcoin, a crypto-currency that is widely used in the Dark Web, to support jihad and the mujahideen. Unlike services like PayPal or eBay, he says (which use regular currency), Bitcoin is a decentralized currency that has "no point of weakness" and is untraceable by "kafir governments."
