Iranian Armed Forces Chief of Staff Major General Mohammad Hosesein Bagheri stated that foreign demand to purchase Iranian-made drones far exceeds the country's production.
Speaking on September 18, 2023 at a Tehran conference commemorating Iran's "Sacred Defense" in the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988), Bagheri pointed to the rapid growth of Iran's defense industry. Iranian regime-operated media outlets quoted him as saying that "[the number of] customers of our drones are several times more than our production capacity" and that "major world powers" want to purchase Iranian weapons, making it a "big drone power."[1]
He emphasized that while sanctions were once placed on Iran's purchase of weapons, now sanctions are imposed on the export of Iran's military products. Bagheri went on to note that once Iran fulfills its own defense needs, it is prepared to export its drones to a number of Western and European states which have requested to purchase them.[2] He added that Iran will make sure its drones will not be used inappropriately.
