Iran-Backed Iraqi Militia Claims Responsibility For Drone Attack Against U.S. Al-Tanf Base In Syria

On January 20, 2023, multiple drone attacks were carried out against the American Al-Tanf base in Syria, according to an official U.S. Central Command statement on its Twitter page. The statement read: "This morning [January 20, 2023], three one-way attack drones attacked the Al-Tanf Garrison in Syria. Two of the drones were shot down by Coalition Forces while one struck the compound, injuring two members of the Syrian Free Army partner force who received medical treatment. No US forces were injured."

On January 21, 2023, an Iraqi jihadi group released a claim of responsibility for the attack against the Al-Tanf base. In the statement, the group emphasizes that "no one can stop us," adding that "whoever does not listen to our voice saying the occupier needs to be removed will kneel in front of our guns" and that it intends to carry out its threats and not hide behind a computer.
