On October 7, 2016, it was reported that Indian hackers had carried out a "massive" cyber attack against the computer network of the Pakistani government, claiming to have locked its data with ransomware. The Indian government claims that one hacker, going by the name of Vuppala Dhani, had infected the network and taken control of hundreds of computers using a malicious program and had rendered the computers inaccessible for users. Experts claim that the Indian hackers only compromised Pakistani network after Pakistani hackers under the name of "Pakistan Haxors Crew" defaced 7,000 Indian websites in the wake of surgical strikes against Pakistani targets by the Indian military.
