On December 16, 2017, a jihadi organization posted a one-minute clip on Telegram featuring a foreign fighter in a trench in Syria. The video shows what the fighter describes as a frontline position that had recently been reinforced with materials purchased with funds raised in bitcoin online. The fighter addressing the camera speaks in Arabic with an American-sounding accent. The organization uses a bitcoin account to raise money for the mujahideen in Syria, and is still active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Telegram.
