On March 18, 2014, Nicholas Teasuant, a student from Stockton, California and member of the National Guard, was arrested by federal authorities near the Canadian border on charges of attempting to travel to Syria to fight alongside The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
According to the criminal complaint, Teausant began expressing radicalized views on his social media accounts last spring and discussed numerous terrorist plots, including an attack on the Los Angeles subway system, with a paid FBI informant.
The following report will review Teausant's social media activity including his views against the American government and democracy, his affinity for jihad and the mujahideen, his desire to travel to Syria, and being influenced by the Taliban and AQAP's Inspire magazine. For example, in one post on Instagram, Teausant even shows his attempts to communicate directly with the Taliban and the creators of Inspire using the Asrar Al-Mujahideen encryption program.
