Nine years ago, Mike Pence, then a congressman (R-IN) and a ranking member of the House Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, and who is now governor of Indiana and was chosen by Donald Trump as his running mate, co-hosted, together with Rep. Gary Ackerman (D-NY) a briefing by MEMRI on the subject of jihadi use of the Internet, at which he said:
"Since MEMRI was established in 1998, it has provided an invaluable window into an otherwise opaque situation to most Americans... Since September 11 it has simply become indispensable... Today MEMRI will demonstrate [how] jihadi websites [are] widely available ... hiding in plain sight. MEMRI has done the hard work of locating and exposing them... I salute MEMRI and its president, Yigal Carmon, and hope they continue to shine the spotlight of truth on the Middle Eastern governments and media outlets in their own words... MEMRI provides a critical window into that world."
