On May 14, 2024, Al-Qaeda's Global Islamic Media Front (GIMF) media outlet published a March 13 statement issued by its technical department eulogizing Hamza Al-Malaysi, also known as Hafifullah bin Ahmad, a technical expert who was a pioneer in developing "jihadi technology." The statement accused Idlib-based jihadi Hay'at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) of killing him.
Describing Al-Malaysi's jihadi career, the statement said he he was always thinking about how jihad could advance in the fields of modern technology, and offered his expertise in this field. He helped develop several technical projects to help the mujahideen advance in Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen, and Mali. His main concern was to extend help and support the oppressed Muslims in Palestine, Kashmir, Burma, and East Turkestan - realizing that this nation is one body, and its jihad is one jihad."
