Iraqi VP Al-Nujaifi: Sending Iraqis to Fight in Aleppo "inconceivable"; Turkey Can Play Important Role in Battle for Mosul

Iraqi Vice President Osama Al-Nujaifi said that it was "inconceivable" to send Iraqis to fight in Aleppo and elsewhere in Syria. On the other hand, he welcomed Turkish involvement in the battle for Mosul. "We and Turkey should act in a diplomatically responsible manner, and reach an agreement that will remove all fears, while preserving Iraqi sovereignty," he said in a November 9 Al-Fallujah TV interview. "Turkey can play an important role in the battle" for Mosul.

Al-Nujaifi: "Today, Iraq is not moving in a balanced manner. We want Iraq to deal only with Iraqi affairs, and to cooperate with everybody in a balanced fashion. It is inconceivable to send Iraqis to fight in Syria. Tens of thousands of the Popular Mobilization Units are fighting in Aleppo. How are we connected to the battle for Aleppo? These things have their impact. It encourages others to interfere in our affairs. I say that we and Turkey should act in a diplomatically responsible manner, and reach an agreement that will remove all fears, while preserving complete Iraqi sovereignty. I am sure that we will need the support of all forces in the battle for Mosul. This will be a long, complicated, and difficult battle, and we will require much expertise. Turkey can play an important role in this battle."
