An editorial in Pakistan's mass-circulation Urdu-language newspaper Roznama Jang recently celebrated Pakistan's success at the UN Human Rights Council in drafting an anti-Israel resolution with the aid of Palestinian diplomatic missions in Geneva, Cuba, and Bolivia, and called upon the international community to resolve the issues of Kashmir and Palestine.

"The failure in Palestine and Kashmir has raised questions on the effectiveness of the United Nations and to satisfy billions of people in the world regarding the existence of this organization, these conflicts must be resolved as soon as possible according to the requirements of justice," Roznama Jang said in the editorial titled "Pakistan's Major Success At The UN."

The editorial noted: "It is said in the Human Rights Council resolution that if the supply of arms to Israel is not stopped, it will mean exposing the people of Gaza to the risk of genocide. The draft resolution was presented by Pakistan on behalf of 55 of the 56 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation."

Following are translated excerpts from Roznama Jang editorial:[1]

"The Pro-Israel Countries, Especially Its Biggest Patron, The United States Of America, Continue To Supply All Kinds Of Weapons Publicly To... [Israel] Without Any Remorse"

"There has been a failure of the international community to stop the barbaric aggression of the Israeli forces, which has been going on for six months against the oppressed Palestinians who have been trapped in the Gaza area for years due to the restrictions imposed by the Israeli state illegally occupying the land of the Palestinians.

"[The international community] also played the role of spectators to this brutality, while some powerful countries are supplying Israel with modern weapons to continue the massacre of Gazans. All of this is a shameful display of the contradictions of the modern developed world claiming to be the champion of human rights and peace and justice.

"Despite the complete destruction of Gaza and the loss of around 40,000 human lives, the approval of a ceasefire agreement within the United Nations, the institution responsible for maintaining peace in the world, also remained elusive. The resolutions passed in the General Assembly remained ineffective due to non-enforceability, while most of the resolutions in the Security Council were subjected to the democracy-killing weapon of the veto.

"Even if some progress was made in this direction, it remained no more than a lip service because no effective international sanctions against the aggressor Israel could be included in any such resolution. This is the reason why these resolutions did not have any positive effect on the current situation.  Rather, the pro-Israel countries, especially its biggest patron, the United States of America, continue to supply all kinds of weapons publicly to ... [Israel] without any remorse.

"However, as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Pakistan, with the support of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, prepared a resolution a few days ago demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and a ban on the sale and supply of weapons to Israel. This resolution was unanimously approved by the Human Rights Council yesterday [April 6]. There were 28 votes in favor of the resolution and six votes against it, while 13 countries did not participate in the voting."

"To Save Gaza From Genocide, UN Member States Have Been Asked To Immediately Halt The Sale Or Transfer Of Arms, Ammunition, And Other Military Equipment To Israel"

"It is said in the Human Rights Council resolution that if the supply of arms to Israel is not stopped, it will mean exposing the people of Gaza to the risk of genocide. The draft resolution was presented by Pakistan on behalf of 55 of the 56 member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, while Albania did not participate in the process.

"In the preparation of the text of the resolution, Pakistan also received the support of the Palestinian missions in Bolivia, Cuba, and Geneva. The eight-page resolution calls for Israel to immediately end its occupation of Palestinian land and the illegal blockade of the Gaza Strip.

"To save Gaza from genocide, UN member states have been asked to immediately halt the sale or transfer of arms, ammunition, and other military equipment to Israel. It is worth noting that last week in the United Nations Security Council, the ceasefire resolution in Gaza was approved due to the fact that the United States did not veto it. However, the real need is for practical measures, the signs of which are missing so far.

"The issue of Palestine and similarly Kashmir is almost as old as the United Nations. After the Second World War, the United Nations was established to protect the world from war and conflict, to protect the weak from exploitation by the powerful, and to resolve conflicts through dialogue rather than force.

"However, the failure in Palestine and Kashmir has raised questions on the effectiveness of the United Nations and to satisfy billions of people in the world regarding the existence of this organization, these conflicts must be resolved as soon as possible according to the requirements of justice."
