Egypt | Special Dispatch No. 5620

Today, January 25, 2014, is the third anniversary of the Egyptian revolution. To mark the occasion, we are taking a look back at two MEMRI reports from the revolution.

The first report, Songs of the Revolution – Egypt 2010-2011, captures the spirit of those days and the role of Egypt's secular youth in the revolution. For some of the songs from this report, see below.

The second report is an assessment of the future of revolution, published a day before Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down; it underlines the inevitability of the Egyptian military's intervention in the revolution as well as the military's essential and central role in shaping the future of Egypt. This assessment, Chronicle of a Doomed Uprising: The Egyptian Revolution as a Microcosm of the Arab Masses' Quest for a Share in Power and Resources, is based on an analysis of historical aspects of Egypt's ancient and modern history.
