Noted Pakistani Commentator Naeem Tahir Examines Hizbut Tahrir's Methods and Beliefs

In a recent article, noted Pakistani actor and cultural critic Naeem Tahir examined the role of Hizbut Tahrir in Pakistan, in the wake of the arrest of a serving Pakistani officer over his links to the outlawed Islamist group. Tahir wrote that although Hizbut Tahrir claims to be a political party, it has avoided registering itself as a political party in Pakistan because it does not believe in the Pakistani constitution.

It should be noted that members of Hizbut Tahrir have been holding public events and protests in Pakistani cities despite a government ban on their activities. Recently, Pakistan Army's Brigadier Ali Khan and four majors were arrested over their links to Hizbut Tahrir (also spelled as Hizb-ut-Tahrir).

In an article titled "Hizbut Tahrir Infiltration," Naeem Tahir argued that Hizbut Tahrir believes in absolute power to be vested in the caliph of Islam, who will govern the Islamic caliphate for which the group stands for. In the system of caliphate propagated by Hizbut Tahrir, women will not be permitted to be the caliph, he noted. ...
