Ustad Ahmad Farooq is perhaps the first Pakistani national appointed to a top-level leadership position in Al-Qaeda. Over the past few years, he has emerged as the main spokesman of Al-Qaeda in articulating a jihadist strategy for South Asia. Believed to be in his early 30s, Farooq heads Al-Qaeda's Dawah and Media Department for Pakistan. In early 2013, jihadist media trends indicate that Ustad Farooq is releasing frequent statements on various issues concerning the jihadi activities in Pakistan and its neighborhood.
