Special Announcements No. 314

As a valued reader of MEMRI, you already know that producing and distributing MEMRI research while maintaining the numerous MEMRI websites is an increasingly costly undertaking. That is why your support is so vital to MEMRI at this crucial time. PLEASE CONSIDER SUPPORTING US NOW.

So far, 2014 has been just as turbulent as all other years since the beginning of the Arab Spring in 2010. This historic development has had far-reaching and challenging implications for our work. While once every Middle Eastern country had a limited number of newspapers and television channels, since the advent of the Arab Spring the number of media outlets in the region has greatly increased; with less government control and more independence, and with the proliferation of popular satellite channels, there are now thousands of print, broadcast, and online news and media outlets.

The Arab Spring also marked the point where social media began to play an important role in the region – in the revolutions themselves and in reform efforts, but also in their extensive use by jihadis. There are literally tens of thousands of social media accounts to monitor. Consequently, it takes more effort, more manpower, and more resources for MEMRI to track, translate, and analyze the huge number of sources that are all competing for influence and for the chance to play a role in shaping the new Middle East.

We are counting on your support to help us meet our financial obligations.

We would also like to ask you to consider making your gift a recurring one, so that your support of MEMRI will continue for the remainder of the year.

IF YOU DONATE TO MEMRI, YOUR DONATION WILL, OF COURSE, BE TAX DEDUCTIBLE FOR 2014.

Your support for MEMRI allows us to directly inform the following groups on a day-to-day basis

  • The U.S. Armed Forces: Highest echelons of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force.
  • The U.S. Congress: MEMRI briefs both sides of the political aisle in Congress, including Majority and Minority staff of numerous influential committees – Armed Services, Homeland Security and Government Affairs, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations in the Senate as well as Armed Services, Homeland Security, Foreign Affairs, and Intelligence in the House of Representatives.
  • Federal agencies such as the White House; DOD; DHS; FBI; Department of State; DOJ; TSA; and others.
  • State and local authorities in all 50 states, on matters related to law enforcement, homeland security and counterterrorism.
  • Western government agencies continue to use MEMRI on a daily basis.
  • Academia – over 500 universities, colleges, and other institutes of higher education worldwide.
  • Leading media outlets, both print and television – including The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, CNN, and others – all request MEMRI research every day.
