On August 18, 2012, the website Shumoukh Al-Islam posted a video address by Sheikh Majid bin Muhammad Al-Majid, commander of the Sunni jihad group 'Abdallah 'Azzam Brigades, which is fighting the Syrian regime. In the 15-minute video, dated August 2012 and titled "Message To The Shi'ites In Lebanon," the sheikh calls on the Shi'ites in Lebanon to renounce their leaders' support for the Syrian regime, which is oppressing the Sunnis in Syria, and to refrain from sending their sons to fight alongside this regime. He warns them that, if they do not heed this call, they will be party to this regime's crimes, and will share its bitter fate when it collapses. Moreover, they will be responsible for sparking a civil war that will be far worse than the Lebanese civil war [in 1975-1990].

"Today we address you verbally, [the Shi'ites in Lebanon], so that you hear from us directly, without the mediation of the biased media, which distorts facts, or [the mediation of various] forces that exploit you. This, so that you choose for yourselves what tone to take in your future discourse with the Sunnis and the [other] sectors that are suffering from the crimes [perpetrated by] your religious and political leaders and representatives... and so that you understand the implications of your actions and realize who will end up paying for them...
