On August 9, 2012, a blogger going by the handle "Hazzem Al-Masri" published a post on the "Al-mujahideen fi misr" blog – described on its webpage (http://ansarsharia.blogspot.com) as an "unofficial blog about mujahideen in Egypt" – claiming that Egypt's recent military operation in the Sinai did not harm a single mujahid. The crackdown, which entailed air strikes, came in response to six simultaneous terrorist attacks on August 8, including the takeover of two military armored vehicles and an attempt to cross with them into Israel, attacks that left 16 Egyptian soldiers dead in northern Sinai.
