Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah: The Weapons With Which We Fought The 2006 War Came From Syria

Following are excerpts from an address delivered by Hizbullah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah, which aired on Al-Manar TV on July 18, 2012.

"Some people view Syria as a passageway for the resistance, as a bridge connecting the resistance with Iran – with respect to both Lebanon and Palestine. It is true. Allow me to say, however, that Syria is more than that. It is not merely a bridge, but a true cornerstone of the resistance, not only in the political, popular, or social sense, or in terms of morale, but on the military level as well.

"Let me give you two examples testifying to this. The first... The first... I am not revealing anything new, because the Israelis announced this during the July [2006] war. The most significant missiles, which fell on Haifa and beyond Haifa, and on the center of Israel – occupied Palestine – were missiles of Syrian military production, which were given to the resistance in Lebanon.

[Applause from the audience]

"Syria never served merely as a seaport or airport for the resistance in Lebanon. Syria was a cornerstone. It gave the Lebanese resistance weapons that enabled it to withstand the 2006 war.

"I say to you loud and clear: The most significant weapons with which we fought the 2006 war came from Syria. They came from Syria.

"This is true not only of Lebanon, but of Gaza too. Brothers and sisters, the weapons, the missiles, which found their way to Gaza... Today, I want to speak openly... Today, Israel is afraid of Gaza. For the first time in its history, Gaza sends one and a half million Jewish settlers down to their shelters. Today, Israel fears for Tel Aviv because of Gaza – as well it should.

"How did these missiles reach Gaza, and from where? Were they sent by the Saudi regime? Were they sent by the Egyptian regime? Were they sent by the Arab regimes? No, they were not."
