Two Yemeni journalists, Abdel Razaq Al-Jamal and Amjad Khashafa, who visited AQAP strongholds at the group's invitation, have written about their experiences.

In an article titled "Two Weeks Hosted by AQAP," published September 28, 2011 by the Yemeni newspaper Al-Wasat, Al-Jamal noted that he had decided to "take the risk" and accept AQAP's invitation to visit because he was convinced that "what's been written and said on the media about the group differ from what's on the ground." ...
