Pakistani TV Channel Airs Revolutionary Song with Anti-U.S. Imagery Against 'Infidels'

In late September 2011, U.S. Admiral Mike Mullen described the Taliban's Haqqani Network as the "veritable arm" of the Pakistani military's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), accusing the ISI of masterminding terror attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Kabul and other U.S. targets in Afghanistan.[1]

On September 25, 2011, a YouTube user uploaded a video clip broadcast by Pakistani television channel City 42.[2] The TV clip, which includes anti-U.S. imagery, uses a revolutionary song to inspire nationalist sentiment among Pakistani youth, and issues a clarion call against "infidels."

The song itself is not new; it is from the 1971 Pakistani film Aazadi, with lyrics by Fayyaz Hashmi and music by Rafiq Ali. The singers are Tasawwur Khanum and others.

It should be noted that in 1971, East Pakistan emerged as independent Bangladesh as a result of Pakistan-India/Bangladesh war against West Pakistan.

City 42 is a Lahore-based television channel broadcasting news and information on national and international current affairs, and a variety of programs in Urdu and English.

The channel broadcast a portion of the original song, and the remaining portion of the song is translated here from another YouTube video. The following are excerpts from the lyrics:

Lyrics of the Song from Clip Broadcast by City 42:

[0:08] "The enemies you, have challenged that nation,"
[Chorus]: "have challenged, have challenged"
"The enemies you, have challenged that nation,
"Kaaba is on whose foreheads, Koran is illuminated "in whose hearts, Who are aided by Allah."

[0:36] "The enemies you, have challenged that nation,"
[Chorus]: "have challenged, have challenged"
[1:02]: "Flying the Crescent flag when we advance our step, flying the Crescent flag when we advance our step"

[1:20] "The sky bows, the earth shakes up,
"The sky bows, the earth shakes up,
"The idols in the houses of idolatry fall,
"To eliminate the name of falsehood is our job in the world"

[1:40]: "O ye the infidels you, have challenged this nation"
[Chorus] "have challenged, have challenged"

Lyrics of the Rest of the Song, From YouTube Video:[3]

[2:13] "We are the jingle of the swords of Abbas, Khalid and Tariq [heroes of Islam],
"To eliminate the enemy, we are ready – with our hands armed with swords"
[Chorus] "We are ready; we are ready – with our hands armed with swords"

[2:39] "Every order of Allah and ruling of the Prophet is dear to us – more than our lives,
"O ye the timid, you have challenged that nation"
[Chorus] "have challenged, have challenged"

[3:12] "Every Momin [faithful], every victor [ghazi] has the aid of Allah's grace,
[Chorus] "Every Momin, every victor has the aid of Allah's grace"

[3:31] "When we take the name of Ali"
[Chorus] "Ali, Ali, Ali, Ali, when we take the name of Ali [fourth caliph of Islam]"
"We get victory in the battlefield.
"Be it the East or the West, we all have one slogan,
"The Haideri slogan – Ya Ali [in chorus];
"O ye the infidels, you have challenged that nation"
[Chorus] "have challenged, have challenged"

[4:04] "Kaaba is on whose foreheads, Koran is illuminated in whose hearts, Who are aided by Allah"
[Chorus]: "O ye the enemies, you have challenged that nation,
"Have challenged, have challenged, have challenged, have challenged"
