On October 15, 2011, a prominent writer on the jihadi forum Shumoukh Al-Islam who goes by the handle "'Asheq Al-Qaeda" urged Yemenis to attack the U.S. Embassy in San'a, Yemen. Appealing to their sense of honor, he called on them to avenge the killing of Anwar Al-Awlaki, and to remove the "shame" of the embassy's existence on their land by destroying it and dragging the U.S. ambassador through the streets of the city. In addition to avenging the U.S.'s killing of Yemenis on Yemeni soil, he wrote, this would also humiliate Yemen's president, 'Ali 'Abdallah Saleh, whom the U.S. empowers and supports.
