Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian journalist Abd Al-Halim Qandil, editor of Sawt Al-Umma, which aired on Al-Alam TV (Iran) on July 7, 2011.

Abd Al-Halim Qandil: "You can hardly find any friends of the revolution in its ranks. I refer to the military council and to the government it formed, headed by Dr. Essam Sharaf. Only a few of them are true friends of the Egyptian revolution. Most of them are its true rivals.
"We are witnessing people who pretend to be loyal to the revolution, but act against it. […]
"We are following the principle of 'out of the frying pan and into the fire.' Get rid of someone bad, and replace him with someone worse. This is true of the ministers, the governors, the university presidents, and so on.
"Who is responsible for this? We must call a spade a spade: The military council is responsible. The military council has come up with a new invention. Members of this council say: We are managing, not ruling, the country. As far as I know, my mother, may she rest in peace, is not ruling Egypt. They are.
"They are responsible for every flaw and are credited with every achievement. […]
"The military council was connected to the revolution in one aspect only: It did not want Gamal Mubarak to become president. But they had no objection if Hosni Mubarak continued to rule. […]
"The military council must be told in the clearest way: It is not up to you to decide the extent of the Egyptian revolution. You got to where you are today thanks to the blood of the martyrs of the Egyptian revolution." […]
