Former U.S. Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney on Libyan TV: I Offered Qadhafi-Style Direct Democracy to Solve America's Problems

Following are excerpts from an interview with former U.S. congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, which aired on Al-Jamahiriya TV on May 24, 2011.

Interviewer: "The African Americans suffered from racial discrimination. When the rebels in East Libya caught some dark-skinned Libyans… In South Libya, there are people of various colors, reaching pitch black. God created people of different colors. The rebels treated them as mercenaries, tortured them, cut them to pieces, and killed them in ways unacceptable in any tradition or religion. Have you seen this and what is your comment?" […]

Cynthia McKinney: "On a previous visit to Libya, I was able to learn about the Green Book, and the form of direct democracy that is advocated in the Green Book. When I went back to the United States, I spoke with Senator Mike Gravel, who was a presidential candidate, just like me, in 2008, because he too is pushing a form of direct democracy for the United States.

"That is because the government of the United States fails to represent the interests of the American people now. The government is here, and the people of the U.S. are here. […]

"When we initially heard the assertion, or the allegation, that the Libyan government had employed black mercenaries … it sounded exactly like the kind of propaganda that we blacks of the U.S. are so well accustomed to. […]

"Because the fact of the matter is that Libya is in Africa, and therefore, it is not unusual for there to be people who look like me. […]

"And the way this was received particularly by black people inside the U.S. … was almost insulting of the highest order. […]

The situation in the U.S. is becoming more dire for average, ordinary Americans, and the last thing we need to do is to spend money on death, destruction, and war. […]
