New Osama Bin Laden Tape Taking Credit for Christmas Day Plot

January 24, 2010
Special Dispatch No. 2765

An audio message by Al-Qaeda Leader Osama Bin Laden, aired by Al-Jazeera TV on January 24, 2010. In the short message, Bin Laden addresses US President Obama personally, saying that the Christmas day airline plot was an attempt to convey the same message that was conveyed by the 9/11 bombers: that Al-Qaeda's raids against the US will continue as long as it supports Israel.

Osama Bin Laden: "In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate. From Osama to Obama – peace upon those who follow the divine guidance.

"If our messages to you were conveyed by words, we would not be sending them to you by airplanes. The message that was meant to be conveyed to you by the airplane of the hero and mujahid, Umar Al-Farouq [Abdulmutallab], may Allah release him, reiterates a previous message, conveyed to you by the heroes of 9/11 – a message that has been repeated before and after that:

"America will not even dream of security, until security becomes a reality in Palestine. It is not fair that you enjoy your lives, while our brothers in Gaza live in hardship. Therefore, our raids against you will continue, Allah willing, as long as your support of the Israelis continues.

"Peace upon those who follow the divine guidance."
