In recent years, the radical Salafi-jihadi ideology has given rise to ultra-extremist trends, whose actual influence on the ground is difficult to assess. Texts appearing on the Internet and elsewhere indicate that the leaders of the Salafi-jihadi camp do not view this ultra-radicalism as a positive development or as a mere nuisance, but as a growing danger that needs to be eradicated before it gains momentum and harms the Salafi-jihadi cause.
The following are excerpts from a recent article by prominent Salafi sheikh Abu Muhammad Al-Maqdisi, titled "When We Write," in which he warns against this danger.
