"Syrian Electronic Army" Commander: We Can Hack into Any Anti-Syrian Website within Hours

Following are excerpts from an interview with the commander of the "Syrian Electronic Army" (SEA), which aired on Al-Mayadeen TV on September 27, 2013:

Commander of SEA: We choose our target according to several criteria: We study the targets to determine the effectiveness of the hacking. Websites and media outlets that publish fabricated reports are legitimate targets. In most cases, the choice of target is unanimous. During the two years of the crisis in Syria, we have been following the coverage of politics, especially in the Western media, and we select the most prominent targets in order to achieve the best results.

Reporter: If you want to earn a visit of the Syrian Electronic Army on your website, you must first attack Syria or publish reports they consider false or unfair. At times, they decide to pay you a visit for reasons know only to the "electronic pirates."

Commander of SEA: It is quite simple, to tell you the truth. When a fabricated anti-Syrian article is published, we hack the site within hours.

Reporter: Just a few hours?

Commander of SEA: Yes.

Reporter: Regardless of the nature of the target?

Commander of SEA: Yes.

Reporter: Give me an example.

Commander of SEA: Human Rights Watch published an article, in which it claimed that the Syrian Army used long-range missiles. We hacked that website, and posted videos and information about violations by [rebel] gunmen instead. The hacking takes only a few hours.

The inclusion of the SEA on the list of terror organizations was something we expected, especially after the hacking of the AP site, which shook the U.S. stock exchange. We welcome this. We are proud to be on the same list as the military wing of Hizbullah. Will this have any effect on us? Of course not.
