Lebanese Druze Leader Wahhab Threatens to Arm the Druze: A Secular Syria or No Syria at All

Following are excerpts from an interview with Lebanese Druze leader Wiam Wahhab, which aired on Al-Manar TV on August 7, 2012.

Wiam Wahhab: Let's make things clear so that everybody understands – if it becomes necessary to arm the Druze, I will arm the Druze and fight along with them. This will happen if someone attacks the Druze.

With regard to [the Druze] in Syria, I'd like to make it perfectly clear. The Druze in Syria support a secular regime that protects all. If there is going to be an extremist or fundamentalist regime, the Druze will not agree to that, and they will have a different view about the Syrian state in its entirety. Let us be clear about that.

Interviewer: You are talking about partitioning?

Wiam Wahhab: This is not about partitioning. A secular Syria or no Syria at all.
