Following are excerpts
from an interview with Murad Al-Sudani, secretary-general of the Palestinian
Writers' Union, which aired on Palestinian Authority TV on September
21, 2011.
Murad Al-Sudani:
When the Palestinian leadership became convinced that negotiations were
futile, it acted the same way as [Iraqi journalist] Muntazer Al-Zaidi,
the fighter who threw gloves and a shoe at the face of that enemy [Bush],
who insists on being an enemy.
Some Palestinian politicians
and intellectuals are polishing the ugly face of the occupation. We
say to them: This is the true face of America, which occupied Iraq,
and which continues to fire NATO rockets at Arab countries, shattering
them to pieces, and considering them to be fair game.
Yet it continues to ignore
the justice of the Palestinian cause, the Palestinian people, the Palestinian
rights, the right of our refugees to return to their lands, just like
birds return to their nests.
The Palestinian fighters
and politicians have hurled their shoes at this face, which must understand
that our Palestinian people will never accept partial solutions.
