Following are excerpts
from an interview with Saudi Prince Muhammad Abdallah Al-Faysal, which
aired on AL-Arabiya TV on August 25, 2011:
Muhammad Abdallah
Al-Faysal: I sent my children to study abroad after they finished
junior high.
Interviewer: What
about people who cannot afford to send their children abroad?
Muhammad Abdallah
Al-Faysal: They should try to instill in their children what I am
talking about on their own.
Interviewer: It's
a tragedy if people who cannot afford to send their children abroad
have a problem with their education…
Muhammad Abdallah
Al-Faysal: We all know that we have an education problem. Even the
educators themselves know this. But the question is what needs to be
done.
Interviewer: What
is the solution…
Muhammad Abdallah
Al-Faysal: What changes must take place.
Interviewer: What
needs to be done? Should we change the curricula or the philosophy of
our education?
Muhammad Abdallah
Al-Faysal: Basically, it is the philosophy of our education. What
do we want our child to be? We have produced terrorists who carried
out bombings.
Interviewer: Do
you think the curricula play a role in this?
Muhammad Abdallah
Al-Faysal: The curricula are the source of this. We should determine
how we want to raise this young man. What he will do with his life.
