Lebanese Parliamentary Debate on Syria Degenerates into a Brawl

Following are excerpts from a Lebanese parliamentary debate, which aired on New TV on July 6, 2011:

MP Khaled Al-Dhaher, March 14 Coalition: We call to respect the choices of the Syrian people. We demand that the gang of cursers and praisers…

Parliament Speaker Nabih Beri [in response to catcalls from Lebanese Ba'th Party MP 'Assem Qansu]: Your turn will come 'Assem.

Don't answer back…

Your turn will come…

MP 'Assem Qansu: He has the audacity to challenge Syria. Who is this dog…

Nabih Beri: Your turn will come. You can have your say then.

[…]

MP Khaled Al-Dhaher [after returning to his seat and being told what ‘Assem Qansu said]: Mr. Speaker, the truth is that I didn't hear what my colleague 'Assem Qansu said. He said: "Who is that dog talking over there?" I want to tell him that he is the dog, not me.

Catcalls from the MPs in session

Nabih Beri: My colleague… Listen to me…

Our dear colleague…

Our dear colleague…

[MPs try to restrain ‘Assem Qansu]
