Following are excerpts from an interview with General Hossein Salami, deputy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps, which aired on Iranian channel 2 TV on July 4, 2011:

General Hossein Salami: Islam is opening up new fronts and narrowing the political breathing space of the West. This is a move from which there is no way back. The enemy's mental balance has been disturbed. The enemy's strategies remain incomplete and useless. In the past 10 years, the enemy has not succeeded in realizing any of its goals in the Islamic world and the Middle East. All they got was great financial losses and loss of opportunity. The iceberg created by this [Western] political power is gradually melting by the heat generated by these [Arab] revolutions.

Look at the Zionist regime. It created a desired strategy for itself called: "From the Mediterranean to the Euphrates," or rather, "From the Nile to the Euphrates." Today, however, they are trying to preserve what they already have: from the Sea to the Wall – from the Mediterranean to a concrete wall, which is a few meters high and several meters long, in order to prevent the infiltration of Palestinians into the Palestinian lands occupied [in 1948].

[Israel] is hanging between life and death. The enemy senses that its life is nearing its end, even though the US seems very powerful in the economic, political, and military senses. All these are considered to be the most advanced. But we can see that [the US] is on a slippery slope.
