Following is the text
of the February 25, 2011 speech delivered by Libyan Leader Mu'ammar
Al-Qadhafi, at Green Square, which was broadcast live on Al-Jamahiriya
TV:
Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi:
Respond to their claims. Respond to those collaborators. Respond to
those liars. Respond to the "lies agencies." These are not
news agencies. This is not media. These are "lies agencies."
They should be called "lies agencies." Respond to them.
I know the Libyan people.
If my people doesn't love me, I have no right to live. If my people,
the Arab people, the African peoples, and all the peoples do not love
Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi, then Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi has no right to live for
even a single day. If my people does not love me, I have no right to
live for even a single day. This is my people. This is the voice of
the people.
Prepare to defend Libya.
Prepare to defend the Great Man-Made River. Prepare to defend the oil.
Prepare to defend honor, independence, and glory. Respond to them. Respond
to them. Let them be embarrassed. Let them be ashamed. I am among the
masses at the Green Square of Tripoli.
This is the people. These
are the sons and grandsons of the martyrs of the battles of Jihad, who
shattered the Italian invasion. The Italian empire was shattered by
the resistance of your fathers and grandfathers. With the will of the
people, we are capable of shattering any aggression – with the armed
people. When it becomes necessary, the arsenals will be opened, so that
the entire Libyan people can arm itself. All the Libyan tribes. Libya
will become like red fire, like red coals.
I have come here to salute
you and your courage. I have come to tell you to respond to them. I
am among the people, the masses. Even though Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi is
not a president, a king, or a prime minister, and has no constitutional
or administrative authorities, the people love him, because here lies
glory. We are glory, honor, splendor, history, and struggle.
This is the people that
brought Italy down to its knees, to the point that it kissed the hand
of the son of Omar Al-Mukhtar. This is the revolution that brought Italy
down to its knees and made it kiss the hand of the son of Omar Al-Mukhtar
– Sheik of the Martyrs, the Hero of the Jungle,1 the leader of the
national Libyan resistance. This is the people that forced Italy to
apologize, and to pay compensation against its will. This is the revolution
that forced Italy to apologize and to pay compensation in all wretchedness.
This is the revolution
that brought Libya to the top, and made it the leader of the Third World
– nay, of the world in its entirety. This is the revolution that elevated
the Libyan people. The revolution brought the people to greatness. You
should sing, dance, and get ready. Sing, dance, and get ready. This
high morale is stronger than the mouthpieces of the wretched, despicable,
collaborating Arabs.
Europe, America, and
the Arabs – look at the Libyan people. Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi is among
the masses, among the youth. This is the Libyan people. This is the
fruit of the revolution. These young people are enthusiastic because
they believe that glory, honor, splendor, and history lie in the revolution.
This is the revolution that revived the Jihad of the heroic forefathers.
This is the revolution that revived Omar Al-Mukhtar, and revived the
battles of Jihad everywhere, commemorating them so that these sacrifices
would not be lost. They had wanted to erase the sacrifices of our fathers
and grandfathers.
I am among the masses,
and we will fight and defeat them, if they touch any part of Libyan
soil. Libyan soil is precious. We will defeat any foreign attempt, just
as we defeated them in the past – just as we defeated Italian colonialism
and the American raids.
This is the invincible
power – the power of the masses, of the youth. Life without glory
is not worth living. Life without flags flying high – like these green
flags – is not worth living. Life has value when it is a life of glory,
honor, dignity, and victory, and when green flags fly high.
Oh, the youth, you can
relax in any street, in any square – dance and sing all night, live
a life of glory, live a life of high morale. Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi is
merely one of you. Dance! Sing! Rejoice! Be happy!
Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi
blows kisses to the crowds
1"Lion of the Desert" is the epithet given to Omar Al-Mukhtar. Recently, Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi has referred to him as "Lion of the Jungle."
