Following are excerpts
from an interview with self-proclaimed Libyan Crown Prince Muhammad
Al-Senussi, which aired on Al-Jazeera English TV on February 24, 2011:
Interviewer: In
London, I have been talking to King Idris's exiled successor, Muhammad,
who calls himself the "crown prince." Is he now in touch with
the leaders of the movement to oust the Qadhafi regime?
Muhammad Al-Senussi:
I think everybody is leading the revolution. There are no particular
people. The whole Libyan people leads this revolution, especially young
people.
Interviewer: Obviously,
some people are more important than others – for example, generals
who might have changed sides. Are you trying to contact the powerful
people?
Muhammad Al-Senussi:
What I am trying to do now to stop the massacre... I am trying to put
pressure, and call upon the international community to stop this killing.
Al-Qadhafi – he must leave. That is what I am trying to do every day.
Interviewer: What
should the international community do, and what can the international
community do?
Muhammad Al-Senussi:
The international community knows the way to stop the massacre.
Interviewer: But
are you in favor of military intervention from the international community?
Muhammad Al-Senussi:
I think that anything that will stop the killing – I will support
it.
Interviewer: Are
you planning to return to Libya? Are you thinking of going home now?
Muhammad Al-Senussi:
Going home is not the issue now. Of course, my heart is with my people
there, but the main issue now is the massacre. This is the main issue.
Interviewer: This
is an anti-Qadhafi revolution, if you like. It's not a pro-monarchy,
not a pro-restoration of the monarchy movement, is it?
Muhammad Al-Senussi:
Of course, yeah. People took to the streets by themselves, after 40
years, and they asked for freedom, they asked to live as humans –
that is what they asked.
Interviewer: Do
you think the restoration of the monarchy in Libya would be a good idea?
Muhammad Al-Senussi:
This is up to the Libyan people. Again, there is a human disaster, and
people are dying. This is what is making me move now and use all my
contacts to stop this bloodshed.
