Aesha Al-Qadhafi, Daughter of Libyan Leader: "I Am an Ambassador of Goodwill – With or Without the UN"

Following are excerpts from an interview with Dr. Aesha Al-Qadhafi, daughter of Libyan Leader Mu'ammar Al-Qadhafi, which aired on Al-Jamahiriya TV on February 23, 2011.

Reporter: Dr. Aesha, some media outlets reported that you took a plane, and flew to Malta, and that Malta refused to accept you, so you had to land in Cyprus. How do you respond to these reports?

Dr. Aesha Al-Qadhafi: First of all, I do not follow these collaborating, treacherous TV channels. I only follow the TV channels of the Great Republic of the Masses [Libya], but I was surprised to receive many phone calls from my friends abroad, who told me about this.

I would like to say to the Libyan men and women, who love me and whom I love, and who know me well, that I stand firm in front of this steadfast house.

But this demonstrates to the Libyans the extent of the distortion employed by these channels in the airing of news.

Reporter: Dr. Al-Qadhafi, is there any truth to the news that the UN terminated your mission as an ambassador of goodwill?

Dr. Aesha Al-Qadhafi: I heard this news, but I don't know whether it is true or not. But all the Libyans who know me know that I am an ambassador of goodwill – with or without the UN.

Reporter: Thank you, Dr. Al-Qadhafi.

Dr. Aesha Al-Qadhafi: Thank you.
