Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman on Death of Richard Holbrooke: Politicians Should Know This World Is a Transient Place and Devote Greater Thought to Their Actions

Following is an excerpt from a press conference held by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast, which aired on IRINN (the Iranian News Channel), on December 14, 2010:

Journalist: Could you comment on the passing of Richard Holbrooke, the US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan?

Ramin Mehmanparast: In general, I think that death should serve as a lesson to everybody, and especially to politicians, who should know that this world is a transient place, and that therefore, they should devote greater thought to their actions, conduct, and policies. Nobody will remain in this world forever. We should draw a lesson from this event, in order to build a just world, without oppression or discrimination.
