Taliban's Commander of the Kabul Region: French Forces Offered Us Money to Refrain from Attacking Them

Following are excerpts from an interview with Seifullah Jalali, the Taliban commander of the Kabul front, which aired on Al-Jazeera TV on November 29, 2009.

Anchor: Seifullah Jalali, the commander of the Kabul front in the Afghan Taliban movement, said that the French forces in Afghanistan offered the Taliban large sums of money in return for the Taliban’s promise not to launch attacks against them. Jalali said, in an exclusive interview to Al-Jazeera TV, that the Taliban rejects such offers, and insists upon the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Afghan lands.

Reporter: The French in the Sarobi region tried to send presents to the mujahideen, and offered them lots of money in return for refraining from attacks against the French forces. But the Taliban mujahideen responded by rejecting its categorically, and strongly demanded that the French and other forces withdraw from our country, which they had entered by aggression and violence.

Seifullah Jalali: There are many groups that – after getting the permission of the Taliban – receive weapons from the foreign forces, via the government, and then hand these weapons over to us. These people kept their promise and delivered these weapons to us.
