Al-Jazeera TV Host Ahmed Mansour upon Release by German Authorities: My Arrest Was a Trap Set by the Egyptian Regime for Qatar

#4977 | 02:21
Source: Al-Jazeera Network (Qatar)

Speaking on Al-Jazeera TV after his release from a German prison, TV host Ahmed Mansour said: "Allah wanted to humiliate, defeat, crush, and disgrace Abd Al-Fattah Al-Sisi, along with his regime and his corrupt judges, for the whole world to see... They set a trap for Qatar, for Al-Jazeera, which is a part of Qatar, and for Ahmed Mansour... But Allah has humiliated them." Mansour's statements aired on June 24, 2015.

Following are excerpts:

Reporter: We are broadcasting live from Berlin to cover our colleague Ahmed Mansour, as he is leaving prison after the German authorities decided to release him. Let's listen to what he says.

Ahmad Mansour (in English) : I am free!

Crowd: Allah Akbar!

In Al-Jazeera Network Studio

Ahmad Mansour: There are journalists who are imprisoned in Al-Sisi's jails. These are journalists outside Egypt who are pursued by Al-Sisi, and I am perhaps at the top [of that list]. After contemplating the story in its entirety, I have reached the conclusion that it boils down to something that Allah wanted. Allah wanted to humiliate, defeat, crush, and disgrace Abd Al-Fattah Al-Sisi, along with his regime and his corrupt judges, for the whole world to see.

I never imagined that I would see the global media in its entirety united – from north to south, from east to west – in supporting a single individual journalist, persecuted by a despotic and criminal regime, as happened in my case. In one moment, the entire media united. [Al-Jazeera General Manager] Yasser Abu Hilala said to me: "Ahmed, CNN is broadcasting live from the moment you were arrested. I'm flipping the remote to make sure it is CNN and not Al-Jazeera in English. So many people are in shock."

People could not imagine that Allah would place such unity in our service. Our Lord has placed the entire world at our service, at this historic moment, in order to achieve the goal [of humiliating] that regime.

Ahmed Mansour is a symbol of Al-Jazeera. Ahamed Mansour is a part of Al-Jazeera. This is a [smear] campaign against Al-Jazeera and Qatar. All the tweets that followed my arrest were gloating at Qatar's expense. It was as if they were telling the Qataris that Ahmad Mansour, who is a part of Al-Jazeera, which is, at the end of the day, Qatar… They set a trap for Qatar, for Al-Jazeera, who is a part of Qatar, and for Ahmad Mansour, who is a part of it. But Allah has humiliated them. Praise be to Allah.
