Egyptian TV Host: I Can Understand Suicide Bombings in Israel, But Not against Muslims or Christians

Following are excerpts from an interview with Egyptian TV host Rola Kharsa, which aired on Sada Al-Balad TV on August 30, 2014:

Panel member I: It is an issue of brainwashing… How can someone reach the point where… Can you imagine a man putting on an explosive belt, and then proceeding to blow himself up in a market, until nothing is left of him?

Rola Kharsa: Perhaps I could understand this…

Panel member II: They promise him Paradise or give him money.

Rola Kharsa: I can understand this when it happens in Israel. We were raised to believe that Israel is the enemy. I do not condone it, but I can understand it, because all our lives we considered the Muslims to be the enemies of the Israelis. If one believes that he is liberating the Arab world, or Jerusalem – you can somehow say that there is logic here, but not when someone kills a Muslim or a Christian – fellow citizen – who has done nothing wrong. Why would I blow myself up and kill him?
